  By popular demand, Geoff has expanded his classroom and workshop offerings in 2012.  Whether you're a casual point-and-shooter or a more advanced amateur who wants to better understand how to get the most out of your camera, you'll learn what you came for, and have fun doing it!

Geoff's enthusiasm, common-sense approach, and instructional skill comes from long  photographic experience, as well as many years spent as a writer and  technical communicator.

Working Your Camera

Got a new camera but no idea what to do with it?  Whether you have a basic point-and-shoot or a sophisticated digital SLR, Geoff’senjoyable, interactive class will help you learn the basics of making photos you’ll be proud to share with family and friends.   

Topics include the usual suspects: proper focus, exposure, composition, and using flash. . .but with a digital twist!  Geoff will show you how to use your camera’s digital features to get sharper images, make adjustments to exposure and composition “on the fly,” take the mystery out of shutter speed, lens openings, and ISO, discover five steps to better composition, and much more.  You'll also receive a copy of the class presentation, with notes, for future reference. Nature Photography

In this class, you’ll apply the practices you learned in Working Your Camera to outdoor subjects: SW Florida’s birds,mammals, butterflies, and plant life.  Geoff will share his photographic approach: how to find great light, analyze settings for photographic potential, and develop practices that will help you to be ready when the shot of a life-time presents itself.

You’ll also learn how to use more advanced features of your camera to get the best image quality: exposure compensation, reading histograms, white balance, and more.  Geoff will also share many of his award-winning images and explain the stories, strategies, and compositions behind them.
The class also features a one-hour field workshop on the Slough’s boardwalk. BRING YOUR CAMERA MANUAL to class!

Editing Digital Images

In this class, Geoff will show you, step by step, how he processes his images.  You'll learn about the pros and cons of RAW files vs. JPEG, tips for adjusting contrast, color balance, cropping for maximum impact, image sharpening, and much more.

FIELD WORKSHOPS
(Bunche Beach, Little Estero Lagoon, and other SW Fla. locations)
Join Geoff at Bunche Beach (or Little Estero Lagoon, at Geoff's discretion) and learn techniques that will enable you to capture great shots of bird life along SW Florida beaches.  You'll learn:
  • How to get birds to come close to you
  • Shorebird behavior and how to anticipate it
  • Finding great light and vantage points
  • Photographing birds in flight

Cost: $150.00 per person.
