A Green Heron (Butorides virescens) surveys its hunting options amidst the Spatterdock at Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve. A stealthy hunter, Green Heron will often stand on a twig or a sturdy leaf and wait patiently for a fishy to swim by, unaware. The bird can extend its neck like a Slinky and catch the fish with a lightning-quick motion.
